Born in Cairo, Egypt on November 14, 1992, his grandfather Boutros Ghali was Prime Minister of Egypt for two years before he was assassinated in 1910, he graduated from Cairo University and received a PhD in International Law from University of Paris. He became President of the Centre of Political and Strategic Studies in 1975 and President of the African Society of Political studies in 1980. His Political career came in 1974 when he was selected as a member of the Central Committee of the Arab Socialist Union from 1974 to 1977, he served as Egypt’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs for 14 years and then became Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs for couple of months and then moved to UN.
Boutros Boutros-Ghali served as the sixth Secretary General of the United Nations from 1992 to 1996, he oversaw the UN at a time when the world was in severe crisis including the separation of Yugoslavia and Rwandan Genocide, He was then first Secretary General of the Organization international de la Francophonie from November 1997 to December 2002.
On February 16, 2016 it was announced that Boutros Boutros-Ghali died at the age of 93.
